Diet versus Healthy Eating

When I hear the word "DIET" I cringe. Oh no. NOT THAT! I've tried different types of diets in the past with some successes. Short term weight loss. But anytime I did not continue to follow the plan, part of the weight came back in the long term.

So my new year resolution was to eat healthy and exercise to lose weight AND keep it off. It should be doable because my husband is my partner in this philosophy.

We started our healthy eating last Monday, January 24, 2011. We are following a modified meal plan from the 50 million pound challenge that my husband did a few years ago. He had the menu and shopping list printed out. Which is a good thing because the website doesn't have it anymore.

Anyhow you eat three small meals with three snacks never more than 3 hours without eating. We love protein shakes for breakfast and an afternoon snack. Fruits, vegetables, meat, beans and whole grains make up the meals. The snacks can be a protein bar, or 4 animal crackers and an orange, or 6 whole wheat crackers with 2 tsp of sugar free jelly, or a handful of pretzels, etc.

The best part of this meal plan is that I LOVE all this food. It is mostly what I was eating after I broke my addiction to sugar using the HCG diet. But as with any human, I had slipped into old habits of too much sugary, processed and high calorie food, especiallly from restaurants. As a result I had gained some weight back and my clothes were getting tighter.

But with this new way of eating, I am not as sleepy, I have more energy, my clothes fit better, and I've lost 6 pounds in 1 week. (Probably all that water I've been drinking too...lol.)

As a matter of fact, I had so much energy Saturday morning I got up and did a whole Tae Bo DVD workout before 9am. I haven't done that in quite a few years.

My husband is keeping a journal of our new lifestyle also. He writes stories about our adventures. I think I will make him a blog. I will let you know when we do.

So far so good! No more DIETING for us. Only Healthy and Happy Eating now.
