I love learning

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you. - B.B. King

I finished my romance writing class and realized the idea I had in mind to write about wasn't strictly a romance story. So I put it on the back burner. I also discovered that I am great at big picture ideas, just not so hot at the small details that make the stories come alive. I know part of it is because I have such a vivid imagination that when I read "she ate an apple" what I see in my mind is "a perky blonde teenager crunching a yellow delicious apple while juice runs down her chin." So now I have to remember to slow down and write more like the second description for my readers who need the details to imagine my story.

Ever the student, I enrolled in another online writing class "A Writer's Guide to Descriptive Settings." This one will challenge me to use more imagery in my stories. I plan to write this summer while I am off from school.

I am looking for a cooking class to take in the evenings this summer. I want to improve my culinary skills. I watched Food Network's new series "Worst Cooks in America" and discovered culinary skills can be learned. Now don't get me wrong, my mom is an AWESOME cook and I could have learned well from her. I just had no interest while I lived at home. I planned on being a career woman without spouse or children, so why did I need to cook? I would just go out to eat every night and let other people cook for me.

Watching "Julie and Julia" and using Pampered Chef products have both inspired me to learn to cook. Pampered Chef makes cooking and entertaining FUN and elegant! The people who sell these products will come to your home to have cooking demonstrations. This summer I am moving to my own place and my kitchen WILL be stocked with Pampered Chef products.

I will never stop learning.

MOTHER! I had no idea you planned on being a career woman. Now I see why I wanted that, lol.

And I can see where I get my love of learning. I am so proud of you Mom. I love you. =]
